“I don’t know what I’m meant to be ready for. Whatever happens, happens. I’ll just roll with the punches.” That’s what Jamie Dornan said when one reporter asked him if he was prepared for the hurricane of fame, fans and attention that will inevitably come his way after Fifty Shades of Grey hits theatres on Feb. 13.
The seriously down-to-earth Northern Irish actor, 32, has caught the eye of Holywood bosses and has quickly positioned himself as a highly qualified and oh-so-dreamy leading man.
Born in Belfast and raised nearby in the country’s very own, albeit a little less glitzy, Holywood, Jamie dabbled as a model for Calvin Klein and dated Keira Knightley before getting his first movie gig from Oscar-winning director Sofia Coppola in 2006’s Marie Antoinette.

After a recurring turn on TV’s Once Upon a Time came to an end in 2011, the actor signed on to star opposite Gillian Anderson in the British mini-series The Fall. Set in his hometown, the series has handsome Jamie convincingly portraying an elusive serial killer wrapped up in a cat-and-mouse game with the local police.
“The initial intention was not to hire somebody who was that attractive,” admits Gillian, “but it was clear he was the man for the job. Although in the process, we realized what [his looks] could do psychologically to the viewer -- there was something intriguing about that.”
When he’s not busy evading police and bringing E.L. James’ steamy story to life on screen, Jamie can be found playing the role of husband and father to perfection. In November 2013, his wife of almost two years, Amelia, gave birth to the couple’s first child, a daughter, and the Dornan clan have called Vancouver their second home ever since.
“I’ve spent an enormous amount of time in the city,” says Jamie, who was recently in British Columbia to film The 9th Life of Louis Drax with Canada’s Sarah Gadon. “Every job I do is in Vancouver!”
