It may be hard to believe, but Queen Elizabeth II and her sister, Princess Margaret, once spent an evening partying with the public. It’s a true tale that’s now being turned into a film called A Royal Night Out, and we now have a first glimpse of the spirited trailer.
The picture follows the two young women as they head out into London to celebrate the end of World War II and VE Day (Victory in Europe Day) on May 8, 1945. Hilarious hijinks and memorable moments obviously ensue.
Canada’s own Sarah Gadon (one of Hello!’s Most Beautiful Canadians) stars as the reigning monarch, while Emily Watson and Rupert Everett play the Queen Mom and King George. The cast is rounded out by Transformers: Age of Extinction’s Jack Reynor, who plays a gentlemen the ladies meet while out on the town, and Bel Powley as Princess Margaret.
The trailer sees the princesses begging their parents for an evening away to engage with Londoners. Their request is granted under one condition: they take two military escorts with them and keep them by their side throughout the evening. The teenagers agree and then, at the first opportunity, take off to explore the city on their own. What follows is some epic sightseeing, party hopping and romantic moments.
Though the movie is only set to be released in the U.K. (on May 15), we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the film will cross the ocean later this spring.
