Sean Lowe bursts into laughter when we tell him that he might just be the most sensitive man we’ve ever met. “Honestly, I consider myself a dude, so you saying that I’m in touch with my feelings is probably the first time I’ve ever heard that,” he says during our exclusive interview in Toronto.
Consider our argument: the athletic insurance agent from Dallas, Texas’s all-American charm and unrehearsed sincerity made him a favourite on Emily Maynard’s season of The Bachelorette – even if she didn’t pick him. He then won hearts as the perfect gentleman on his season of The Bachelor, falling head over heels with spirited graphic designer Catherine Giudici.
The couple married on television in January 2014 and it was Sean, now 31, not his bride, who burst into tears during their romantic ceremony in Santa Barbara. Marriage, he tells Hello! Canada, has exceeded his expectations. “I’m spending my life with my best friend. I couldn’t ask for anything better. The best part about marriage is waking up next to the one you love and then ending the day with the one you love as well. So it’s been an incredible journey so far.”
Now, he’s taking us on that journey in his new book, For the Right Reasons: America’s Favorite Bachelor on Faith, Love, Marriage and Why Nice Guys Finish First. It’s part memoir, part Bachelor insider and like Sean, all heart. We chatted with him just before Valentine’s Day and got him to spill his five tips on love and romance.
