Susan Sarandon and her boyfriend of five years, Jonathan Bricklin, have called it quits according to new reports. Though she’s a fixture in front of the camera, sources say Susan was unhappy being a part of the reality show Connected, in which her boyfriend is one of the main figures.
Morgan Spurlock’s AOL series trails six New Yorkers and their partners for half a year, following their lives through footage taped by the participants themselves. The first episode is set to air at the end of March.
“It caused a lot of strain in the relationship,” a source told Page Six. “It’s documented for the show that Susan breaks up with him because she doesn’t want to be involved with the show. She says, ‘You’re a cast member, I’m not.’”
While a press release for the show lists Susan as Jonathan’s girlfriend, it is not yet clear whether the pair will get back together. “As of now, they’re working on things,” the source added.
Susan, 68, first met her 37-year-old entrepreneur boyfriend when she was on a road trip to Chile in early 2010. The Thelma & Louise star has previously opened up about her relationship, and how the 31-year-old age gap doesn’t bother her.
“It’s the soul of a person that interests me,” Susan told HELLO! magazine last October. “When you are in love, the question of age, sex, colour no longer holds any importance.”
The timeless beauty also revealed that she and Jonathan, who is the co-founder of ping-pong and entertainment venue SPiN, have not moved in together. “We don’t live under the same roof,” she said. “We’re not an ordinary couple.”
Susan, who has three children from two previous relationships, married her fellow college student Chris Sarandon in 1967. They divorced 12 years later but Susan kept her ex-husband’s surname as her stage name.
Susan’s other long-term relationship before Jonathan was with actor Tim Robbins, her partner of 23 years.
