'The Devil Wears Prada' is coming to Broadway

First The Devil Wears Prada got Miuccia Prada’s personal seal of approval, and now the satirical film is getting a Broadway makeover. But will the red carpet at the premiere be cerulean blue? Producer Kevin McCollum, who has a slew of Tonys for shows like Rent and Avenue Q, is helming the adaptation of the highly grossing fashion film.

A recent partnership with 20th Century Fox will see him transform major films into stage shows – a musical version of 1993 blockbuster Mrs Doubtfire is already in the works.

The Devil Wears Prada, which starred Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, follows the story of Andy, a keen journalist who lands a job as the assistant of legendary editor Miranda Priestley, and is quickly thrown into a world where she works 24/7 and has a list of absurd tasks to complete for her ever-demanding boss.

Although further details about the musical version of the film have yet to be revealed, fans have already been noting that Anne could be well suited to reprising her role as Andy, this time on a stage.

The actress is no stranger to theatre – she is currently starring in Grounded at the Public Theater in New York. While she has yet to make her Broadway debut, the brunette beauty has already showcased her singing talents in the film adaptation Les Miserables.

Her musical performance as Fantine gained critical acclaim, and also saw her taking home the Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in 2013.

Fans of The Devil Wears Prada were also delighted earlier this year when Anne and Emily faced off in Lip Sync Battle. The pair mimed along to various hits including Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball using props and showing off their dance moves.

Emily, who stars as Anne’s fellow employee in the film, has previously spoken about wanting to take part in the film’s sequel should it happen.

“I would do it, but only if everyone did it,” she told E!. “I don’t know why it hasn’t been done, but everyone’s got to do it.”
