Fans of Mindy Kaling's sitcom, The Mindy Project, had a meltdown when news broke that the series would no longer be airing on Fox in the United States. It was like losing a best friend - one in brightly hued ensembles with a stethoscope around her neck. But Canadians need not worry as future episodes of the comedy, now picked up by Hulu for our neighbours to the south, will continue to air in their primetime slot on City TV.
While the critically acclaimed workplace series has a fiercely loyal fan base, ratings have hovered on the lower end of the spectrum. Hulu, which was the most popular destination for eager viewers to stream the 30-minute episodes, saw an opportunity to give its users what they want.
But this left Canadians in the lurch after a particularly thrilling season-three cliffhanger. City has assured viewers that business will continue as usual, with The Mindy Project's fourth season airing like any other.
Like fans, Mindy also wasn't ready to see the show come to an abrupt end. "I just think there are more stories," she told The Hollywood Reporter. "I do think there's more to tell, and I think fans would be disappointed not to see more adventures with these characters."
To celebrate the news, City created a number of fun memes demonstrating their excitement, which is surely mirrored by fans. We look forward to seeing where season four takes Dr. Lahiri, Dr. Castellano, Morgan and the rest of the gang.
