Man-of-the-moment Channing Tatum is dancing on air these days. He has a happy home life with wife Jenna Dewan Tatum and two-year-old daughter Everly and, come Canada Day, will thrill audiences once again playing the titular character in the spicy and unforgettable Magic Mike XXL.
“July first is now 'International Give-Your-Partner-A-Lap-Dance Day,'” joked Channing at a recent press conference in Los Angeles. Castmates Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer, Jada Pinkett Smith, Amber Heard and Andie MacDowell joined the actor in a candid chat about stripping, friendship and leaving it all on the dance floor. The follow-up to 2012’s Magic Mike sees the Kings of Tampa heading to Myrtle Beach to deliver the be all and end all of male revue performances.
“I just wanted to blow it out of the box,” says Channing in regards to the sexy choreography that was introduced in the first film. “I was like, ‘ If we’re going to do another one I want to go all out.' I don’t want them ever to be able to do a final routine on stage ever again!”
Leaving their inhibitions at the door and embracing the art of exotic dancing brought the cast closer together and, according to Channing, forged lifelong friendships. "I know a lot of people come up and say 'we just loved each other, we like hanging out,'" he tells Hello!"[But] I haven’t been on a movie where people show up on their days off to watch, and to support their friends. That doesn’t happen a lot and that’s ultimately what happened on this film."
I can look around at all these lovely talented people and just thank them because this is a crazy movie and this is a crazy part of my life,” he says. "I can always look back through the years and be like, ‘ Remember that time we all got naked together?’ ( Laughs).
