The revival of the hit 1990s science fiction series, The X-Files, is getting a flash of Canadiana with the arrival of actor Robbie Amell. The Toronto native has signed on to star alongside David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson in the highly anticipated new season of the show, set to debut in January.
Details about Robbie’s role are under wraps, but the star of The Tomorrow People will reportedly play an agent who helps famed duo Mulder and Scully investigate unexplained phenomena. Six Feet Under’s Lauren Ambrose will join Robbie as a fellow agent. Production on the series is already underway in Vancouver.

It’s already been an action-packed year for the 27-year-old actor who, after signing on to play Firestorm in The Flash last July, went on to find an even bigger audience thanks to his memorable performance as the attractive boy next door in The DUFF.
But Robbie’s biggest moment of the past year came last August when he got down on one knee and asked his longtime love, Italia Ricci, to be his wife. "She said yes!!!...I think. I can't really be sure. I'm going marry my best friend,” exclaimed the star on Instagram, complete with a picture of the couple sharing a kiss after sealing the deal.
Italia, who was born and raised in Toronto like Robbie, has stated that they are taking their time planning a dream wedding, but did confirm to Entertainment Tonight that she has found the perfect dress. “It's funny because when we were shooting the scene of [her character] April trying on wedding dresses, in between takes we were at a bridal shop, so I was looking around. I was like, 'This is convenient!'” recalled Italia, who went on to reveal that, “I found my wedding dress. I bought my wedding dress from the place where April was trying hers on.”
