Television and movie fans have another outlet to watch their favourite titles, now that the streaming site shomi is available to all Canadians. Previously, the Rogers and Shaw endeavour was an exclusive service to their customers, but today's announcement fulfills a promise made in May to make their content barrier-free.
Like Netflix and CraveTV, shomi hosts a variety of entertainment programming, including hit shows like Transparent, Outlander and the Alexander Ludwig -fronted Vikings. Audiences will be able to check out Britney Spears’s guest gig on the next season of Jane the Virgin in addition to keeping up with the dramatic dealings of the Lyon family on Empire.
“Today is an epic day for Canadian entertainment lovers as we deliver on the promise we made to them back in May,” writes David Asch, shomi’s senior vice president and general manager, in a statement. “We announced we would be moving in, and today we’ve arrived.”
The service will run subscribers $8.99 per month and is available at shomi.com.
