Bob Hope, Perry Como, Andy Williams and Bing Crosby were considered the forefathers of the now-defunct holiday variety sketch show, but funnyman Bill Murray is hoping to reignite the passion for the classic special with A Very Murray Christmas (Dec. 4 on Netflix). Playing himself, the veteran actor fears his special will be cancelled as a massive snowstorm looms over New York City. But thanks to the magic of the season and a little “luck and perseverance” by Bill’s famous friends, including George Clooney and Miley Cyrus, the special is saved!
Other notable names joining in on the festivities are Amy Poehler, Chris Rock, Michael Cera, Maya Rudolph and Paul Shaffer. And, last but not least, every spectacular variety show needs an even more spectacular director and Bill found the best in his old friend and Lost in Translation collaborator Sofia Coppola.
To tide you over until December when Bill and friends hit Netflix, here is an exclusive sneak peek at A Very Murray Christmas.
