Beyoncé seems to always have a surprise in the wings for her Beyhive of fans, and she teased her latest on social media this weekend. Taking to Instagram to preview a mysterious new project called Lemonade on Sunday (Apr. 17), the singer revealed her new partnership with HBO and a one-minute trailer promoting the endeavour.
In the clip, dark and eerie images of Beyoncé flash across the screen as she says, “The past and the present merge to meet us here... Why can’t you see me? You’re the love of my life. What am I doing, my love?”
The full-length teaser was released a day after the 34-year-old dangled a glimpse of the project in a much shorter 15-second clip. Clad in a fur coat and cornrows, the pop icon posed against what looks like a car and whispered, "What am I gonna do?"
Speculation regarding the project is now running rampant on Twitter and Instagram. Many think it will be a video supporting the release of her new highly anticipated album, while others think it could refer to a product endorsement or a new biopic. The things we do know are that model Winnie Harlow, who recently attended the CAFA Awards in Toronto, appears in the trailer and so does a snippet of the "Formation" music video (believed to be the first single off Bey's new album).
Whatever happens it's sure to surprise fans – something the mom to four-year-old Blue Ivy seems to love. Ahead of the 2015 Super Bowl she shocked viewers by debuting the first single and music video from her upcoming album and then performed the instant hit, "Formation," during the halftime show. Back in 2013, the icon unexpectedly dropped a full-length album on iTunes. She also kept the recent launch of her athleisure line, Ivy Park, secret for months.
The world premiere of Lemonade is set for Saturday, April 23 at 9 pm on HBO. Cancel your plans or set your PVRs accordingly!
