Every wedding has traditional hallmarks like flowers, bridesmaid dresses and flowing champagne, but it’s the characters at these family affairs that make them truly unique (think comedic speeches and epic late-night dance parties). Wedding Crashers
There’s a lot that goes into crashing a wedding, but agreeing to join the bride’s family for a weekend at their summer home isn’t one of them. Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn play friends who team up to attend weddings to meet women. In this 2005 comedy, their plan gets out of hand when they meet the bride’s sisters, played by Rachel McAdams and Isla Fisher.

The Wedding Date
Faced with having to see her ex-fiance at her sister’s wedding, Kat (Debra Messing) hires an escort (Dermot Mulroney) to be her plus-one. The handsome stranger quickly charms everyone, including Kat, who finds his attention hard to resist. The 2005 rom-com also stars Amy Adams and Holland Taylor.

At the height of the JLo era, Jennifer Lopez starred opposite Matthew McConaughey in this 2001 rom-com about a successful wedding planner working on an event that has the potential to boost her career. The problem? She breaks her cardinal rule by falling for the groom.

Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore stole our hearts when they stepped back in time for this 1998 flick. Set in 1985, this heartwarming movie follows a popular wedding singer who gets dumped at the altar and goes on to find the one he wants to grow old with. Spot on ‘80s references and cameos by Jon Lovitz and Steve Buscemi just add to the laughs.

Sweet Home Alabama
When a New York fashion designer gets engaged to the mayor’s son, most people don’t know that she’s already married. Melanie (Reese Witherspoon) heads home to Alabama to finalize her divorce from her childhood sweetheart. Revisiting her country roots brings back memories and characters that remind her of who she was before she reinvented herself in Manhattan.

Weddings are the worst, or at least that’s how it appears through the eyes of the bride’s younger sister. As Samantha (Molly Ringwald) turns 16, her family is too caught up in the impending nuptials to remember her birthday. See this 1984 hit from writer-director John Hughes, and the name “Jake Ryan” will forever bring to mind red cars and birthday candles.

She goes to great lengths to sabotage the couple’s relationship and get the bride (Cameron Diaz) out of the picture. Two years after this 1997 release, Julia was back on the wedding scene in Runaway Bride.

Toni Collette is this film's titular character, who wants nothing more than to walk down the aisle. Without a boyfriend or any dating experience, the introvert spends most of her time dreaming of her wedding day. When she meets a rebellious new friend, Muriel moves to the big city in hopes of turning her luck around.
