Margot Robbie's story about meeting Barack Obama on her honeymoon is hilarious

Margot Robbie shared a story that won't soon be forgotten on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday (Jan. 10) while promoting her figure-skating film I, Tonya. The actress told the host a cringe-worthy account of how she accidentally met both Ellen herself and former POTUS Barack Obama while honeymooning with her hubby Tom Ackerley in Tahiti.

“Tom puts on these gym shorts, and they’re tiny,” Robbie says on the show. “There’s nothing underneath so he gets on his bicycle to ride there and I’m like, ‘WHOA. Babe, you cannot wear those shorts. They’re like—you can see everything.’ And he’s like ‘C’mon. Who are we going to run into?’”

The answer to that question is, in fact, Ellen DeGeneres, her wife Portia de Rossi, and Barack Obama — a trio who all happened to be vacationing, separately, at the same private Tahitian luxury hotel and working on their fitness together in its teeny gym at the same time.

“I’m not kidding, I’m not kidding,” Robbie tells the audience through laughter. “In a gym that is tiny! It was a very confined space, and we then had to do this whole, like, class, this stretching class and Tom meanwhile is trying to like, not reveal anything. And he’s dying and I’m crying so much, I’m about to crack a rib. And literally, this gym instructor keeps saying to Tom, ‘Tom, lunge. Lunge! You’re not lunging.'”

On Sunday night, though, Tom looked impeccable in a black tux as he attended the Golden Globes with his gorgeous wife and nominee Margot, who wore a stunning black gown in support of the TIME'S UP movement.
