Both Rihanna and Donald Glover are often the talk of the fashion and music industries, breaking barriers with size-inclusive lingerie and politically charged hit songs. And when two powerhouses collide, anything could happen – like a hit movie, for example! Over the American Thanksgiving weekend at New Zealand’s PHAROS festival, the “This Is America” singer debuted a clip from his rumoured film, Guava Island.

While the clip hasn’t been officially released, an eager fan managed to catch a shaky recording of the trailer, which follows the steamy duo and their dramatic island life. “We live in paradise but none of us actually have the time or the means to live here,” his character says in the film’s clip, which cuts between scenes of Donald dashing through the streets with a guitar strapped to his back and Rihanna, who seems to be searching for him.
Though the actor, who rose to fame on the comedy show Community, has reportedly retired from performing under his moniker, the film is indeed credited as “A Childish Gambino Film.” Supposedly shot in Cuba, per the Hollywood Reporter, it was directed by Hiro Murai, who’s worked with the 35-year-old on his TV show Atlanta and a couple of his music videos. Guava Island also co-stars Black Panther breakout talent Letitia Wright, who played Shuri in the Marvel hit.
It’s not surprising to see the powerhouse team working together, given that they’ve been friends for quite some time. Childish Gambino put on an epic performance at Rihanna’s 2018 Diamond Ball, which benefits the Barbadian singer’s Clara Lionel Foundation – and RiRi adorably fangirled over him from the front of the stage, singing along to his songs.
