Jessi Cruickshank muses on ‘The Hills’ reboot and whether the After Show would work today

By Meaghan Wray

Canadian favourite Jessi Cruickshank was the first to co-host a reality TV after show on MTV, chronicling the affairs, misfortunes and drama surrounding each episode of The Hills alongside Dan Levy! Now, the famous reality show is getting the reboot treatment with some additional characters and a new name (The Hills: New Beginnings), and you’d better believe Jessi has some thoughts. HELLO! Canada caught up with the main stage presenter at Toronto’s festive One of a Kind Winter Show to find out what she thinks about the spinoff.

While some of the show’s most beloved cast members, like Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari, aren’t participating in the reboot, Jessi is looking forward to a teen drama crossover as a former star of joins the Californian cast. “I am pretty excited about Misha Barton,” the mother of twins gushed. “I think she’s really interesting.”

Luckily, #Speidi (Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt) will be making a return, and this time with their adorable baby, Gunner. As a mom, Jessi is naturally pretty eager for the entire family to appear on-screen. “I’m also really excited to see if they show people’s babies, because I’m just old and a mom now, but I want to see Heidi and Spencer with that kid. Like, what does he look like? Whitney, I want to see with her kid! I’m genuinely curious. I will be watching.”

In another fun twist, homegrown beauty Pamela Anderson’s son with Tommy Lee, 22-year-old Brandon Thomas Lee, will be joining in on the unscripted fun! “That I’m excited about. I hope [Pamela] makes an appearance because, like, come on – how good would that be?”

But how will fans get the hilarious After Show commentary that made watching The Hills so much fun?Jessi’s not sure it would work as well today as it did in a decade ago. “I think when we did the After Show, it was at a time when reality television was so new [and] buzzy,” she mused. “We wouldn't feel so fresh and new anymore. So, it would be as challenging for us to reboot the after show as I think it would be for The Hills to reboot The Hills so TBD on that one.”
