It looks like 2020 is going to be the year of Celine Dion! It was just announced that a second biopic, Céline Before Celine, of the singer's illustrious career is in the works, and we know her fans would "drive all night" to see it!
The biopic will take a look at the star's life before she became famous. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project will have her nephew, Jimmy Dion, as a screenwriter and will be directed by Quebec native, Marc-Andre Lavoie.
"In my entire career, I've never met someone as kind, warm and authentic as Celine, and we'll be forever grateful that she believes so strongly in our team to tell the real story has it’s never been told before," director Lavoie said in a statement about the film. A letter between the 50-year-old icon and the director was also released. "I wanted to let you know just how much I was touched by the film that you are preparing. With your unique approach, you managed to seize the essence of a period that is very dear to my heart," Celine wrote.
Deadlinerevealed in January that a separate film about the singer's career, The Power of Love, is set for wide release in 2020. The $23-million biopic will reportedly focus less on Celine's life before fame, and more on her relationships with those who helped her rise to unprecedented levels of fame, including her late husband René Angélil.
According to the publication, French actress and director Valérie Lemercier will star in the movie as Celine, while French Canadian actor Sylvain Marcel will portray René, who tragically died of throat cancer in 2016 at age 73. The film will also feature some of the superstar’s biggest hits, including “All By Myself” and “My Heart Will Go On.” According to Harper's Bazaar, the mother of three gave her blessing to the project.
Celine recently told The Sun that she’s enjoying this time in her life: "To be honest, I think I'm at the best of my life right now and I want to enjoy and embrace every moment of it and really enjoy it. It's like I'm having a second wind, like I'm having the wind beneath my wings. I'm having a good time."
In June, Celine will wrap up a 15-year residency in Las Vegas. Over her career she has earned five GRAMMYs, seven American Music Awards, 20 Juno Awards and an astonishing 40 Felix Awards in Quebec.
