Ten-year-old Canadian leaves ‘America’s Got Talent’ judges in awe

By Heather Cichowski

Canada's own Roberta Battaglia blew the America's Got Talent judges away this week with her incredible performance, earning her the prized Golden Buzzer!

The 10-year-old Toronto native sang Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's duet "Shallow" from A Star Is Born on June 2's episode. Despite her being nervous and emotional, Roberta brought the house down. America's Got Talent judges Heidi Klum, fellow Canadian Howie Mandel, Simon Cowell and Sofia Vergara were awestruck by the young girl's incredible voice, and they gave her a standing ovation.

The Modern Family actress was so captivated she hit her Golden Buzzer. The device can only be used by each judge once per season and it automatically puts the contestant through to the next round. In this case, it means Roberta is going on to the semi-final live shows in Hollywood!

“You are so amazing," Sofia said. "You were so good."

Even tough judge Simon was impressed by Roberta's talent and personality. He described the Torontonian as "so likeable" and "so humble."

"Your talent is unbelievable, your age is unbelievable," stated Howie. "This moment is unbelievable."

It was all the more heartwarming because Roberta revealed she has experienced bullying.

"It was amazing. It was breathtaking. You're 10 years old. That's impossible to sing like that at 10 years old," said Sofia.

"And you know what? Let's see who is going to bully you after this," the actress continued as she pressed the Golden Buzzer.

Sofia then ran up onto the stage to hug the talented young performer.

If Roberta wins the US$1 million prize, she already has plans on how she will use part of the money.

"I really want to give my dog, whose name is Happy, a little girlfriend," she explained at the start of her audition.

Good luck, Roberta! Canada is cheering you on.
