Winona Ryder has offered to continue her community service, despite having completed the 480-hour sentence she received from an LA judge. The 31-year-old has been helping out at the City of Hope cancer charity ever since she was found guilty of shoplifting back in December 2002.
"It's her intention to continue," said her lawyer Mark Geragos. "She's done more than the number of hours. It will be a lasting relationship." Her work has included reading to children and doing office work at the clinic.
And while her community service sentence is over, Winona still faces three years of probation. She was fined $3,700 and made to pay $6,300 in damages to Saks Fifth Avenue after she stole $5,500 worth of clothes from the prestigious retailer.
At the time of her arrest, the Girl, Interrupted star had several prescription drugs in her possession, and was ordered to undergo counselling.
"I want you to continue what you have been doing," said Judge Eldon Fox at a hearing in California. "These are positive reports, and I expect the next one to be the same.
And while he agreed that Winona was making progress, he scotched her plans of auctioning the stolen items to raise money for charity. "Your client should not benefit," the judge told Geragos.
