Brad and Angelina make some new friends in Haiti

Schoolchildren in the impoverished country of Haiti in the Caribbean got an unforgettable surprise over the weekend when Tinseltown's hottest couple came to visit them. Youngsters at a school supported by the charity Yele Haiti could barely contain their excitement as Oscar winner Angelina Jolie and her heart-throb boyfriend Brad Pitt joined them for an afternoon of fun and games.

The visit came just a few days after the glamorous pair confirmed they were expecting their first child together. And the mum-to-be was obviously happy to show off her condition, as she pulled her loose t-shirt tight around her tummy so everyone could see her bump.

Angelina's happy news has been dominating headlines around the world in recent days but the actress, who is famous for her commitment to humanitarian causes, was keen to keep the focus of attention on her young hosts. "Given just a little chance and a little help, this is going to be an amazing country - as it should be and as it once was," said the Lara Croft star.

She and her hunky beau jetted into the city of Port-au-Prince at the invitation of hip-hop performer Wyclef Jean. Haiti is the poorest nation in the Western hemisphere and it has recently suffered an upturn in gang activity and political violence. Wyclef, who himself hails from the country, says the key to turning its fortunes around lies in offering more than just financial handouts. "Sometimes you think people need money," he explained. "That's not what they need. They need inspiration and they need a dream."
