UK television series swept the board at the International Emmy Awards this week, winning six out of the nine top honours. Ray Winstone led the field of triumphant British stars, scooping the top award for Best Actor for Vincent, a hard-hitting detective series. Collecting the award on behalf of her father, rising starlet Jamie Winston told the audience "I'm so proud of him. He's inspirational, an amazing dad."
Little Britain was named Best Comedy and Life On Mars Best Drama Series at the glitzy New York bash, which honoured TV programmes made outside the US. Channel 4's teen drama Sugar Rush won the award for Children and Young People, with BBC produced Hiroshima collecting the Best Documentary gong. Gordon Ramsay was also honoured for Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares.
Hosted by Graham Norton, the awards highlighted the growing appreciation of British talent across the pond. American producers are currently working on a US version of Life On Mars, and an American Little Britain is set to appear on the HBO network soon. Cat Deeley's Strictly Come Dancing is a huge hit in the States, and an American version of The Office is tickling ribs stateside.
