Michael Douglas put on a brave face at the AntMan premiere on Wednesday, just days after the death of his mother Diana. The actor was supported by his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones and their two children, Dylan, 14, and Carys, 12, as he stepped out on the red carpet in London.

The 70-year-old, who plays mentor Hank Pym in the new Marvel film, looked dapper in a grey suit, purple tie and Tod's Club Gommino loafers while his wife looked as glamorous as ever in a gold embellished mini dress and metallic heels.

The couple put on a united front and held hands with their children as they arrived at the premiere held at the Odeon, Leicester Square. Dylan dressed up for the occasion in a smart black suit, while Carys looked just like her mum wearing a pretty tiered dress with her long brunette hair in loose curls.

It was a rare red carpet appearance for the family and comes just three days after it was announced that Michael's mother had passed away after a battle with cancer at the age of 92.

The actress had appeared in dozens of films and television programmes throughout her career, including The West Wing and ER.

While Michael has refrained from commenting on his mother's death, his wife Catherine paid tribute to her mother-in-law with a message from the whole family on Instagram on Monday.

Sharing a vintage photo of Diana, Catherine wrote: "Diana we are so grateful to have had you in our lives. We will miss you everyday. Until we meet again... Love you very much."

Catherine has been by her husband's side throughout his promotional duties for the new film, and Michael recently said they are closer than ever following their brief separation in 2013.

"If both of you are willing you know to do it," he told Ellen DeGeneres of their reconciliation. "It can't be a one-way street, but I'm crazy about her and yeah, I think every couple has their difficult times."

He added: "We're back stronger than ever."
