It's official! Carpool Karaoke: The Series is coming soon, with James Corden and a whole host of famous faces getting involved. The trailer for the new show, a spin-off of the Late Late Show segment, is being produced by Apple Music and will follow the same format as the original – sort of. James will take the wheel in one episode, with Will Smith as his passenger, but other episodes will feature a range of celebrities.
John Legend, Alicia Keys, Ariana Grande, Chelsea Handler and Seth MacFarlane have all starred in the trailer for the first series, as well as Metallica, Michael Strahan, Jeff Gordon, basketball star Shaquille O'Neal, wrestler and rapper John Cena and more. Like the original, the celebrities will drive around in their car, but go one step further and take part in skits and surprises. The sneak-peek shows James Corden and Will Smith stopping traffic in one episode, and even crashing a wedding, while another shows Alicia Keys and John Legend singing with a gospel choir in a launderette.
Last summer Carpool Karaoke announced its plans to collaborate with Apple Music. James Corden, who will still feature the original Carpool Karaoke segment on his show, and executive producer Ben Winston said in a statement: "The joy of Carpool is both the intimacy it creates, while seeing the love our passengers have for music. Where better to showcase that than with Apple Music."
"We love music, and Carpool Karaoke celebrates it in a fun and unique way that is a hit with audiences of all ages," Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of internet software and services, said in a statement. "It's a perfect fit for Apple Music – bringing subscribers exclusive access to their favourite artists and celebrities who come along for the ride."
