First, it was all about that bass. Then, it was most definitely about that kiss. Best known for her body anthem (on a debut disc that has topped more than a million copies in sales), Meghan Trainor earned a new position on the pop landscape when she passionately locked lips onstage with fellow singer Charlie Puth at last year’s American Music Awards. Will there be a kiss-and-tell repeat when she makes her splash at the GRAMMY Awards (Monday Feb. 15 at 8 pm EST/5 pm PT on City)? We’ll just have to stay tuned. Nominated in the category of Best New Artist, the lively young thing spilled on cats, her big year and her GRAMMYs date.
It's just crazy. I have to pinch myself. I never thought my name would be in a category with past winners like Adele [not to mention Amy Winehouse and Alicia Keys]! I only wanted to be an artist.
HER DATE FOR THE GRAMMYS
I watched Some Like It Hot with my mom not long ago. Marilyn Monroe was such a sex symbol, but she was often completely covered up, too. Which in itself was too sexy ... showing off her curves.
They’re my heart [she says of her two kittens, Kody and Mittens; the latter has extra thumbs and looks like he’s wearing mittens, she has said]. But my doctor is telling me I’m allergic. He tells me it’s gonna creep up on me, and that the litter dust is not good for my cords. So now [while the cats have a non-allergic caretaker], I have a puppy: Biggie!
ALWAYS THE ROMANTIC
I love love! My parents are very happily married ... and I want that last word one day. I think it’s so cool there’s a person out there meant to be with you. That’s why I wrote a song called “Dear Future Husband” [one of the tracks on Title]. It’s literally a shout-out to my future husband.
ANYTHING FOR ALANIS
When they called to ask me to do the “Jagged Little Chicks” [a sketch she clucked recently with Alanis Morissette and Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show], I was all in. It’s such an iconic song, and she’s such a legend. I practised it religiously.
