Madonna makes a glam appearance at Hard Candy Fitness launch in Toronto

Screaming fans gathered in the blistering cold to get a glimpse of their idol, Madonna, as she prepared to open her newest Hard Candy Fitness centre in Toronto on Feb. 11.

Her many admirers were not disappointed. The 55-year-old pop star made a glamorous appearance on the red carpet outside the downtown location wearing a dominatrix-inspired skirt suit designed by Canadian duo Dean and Dan Caten (aka DSquared2) and a lacy push-up bra.

The singer was also sporting a white bandage under her fishnet stockings, after she bruised a bone while dancing in her high heels late last month.

“It’s freezing! But it’s worth it, if you love her,” one hardcore fan told City of his brief encounter with the megastar.

Located at the new Aura building at Yonge St. and Gerrard St., the Toronto fitness centre is the eighth franchise of its kind (Hard Candy has seven other locations around the world, in cities that include Mexico City, Rome and Sydney).

The $6-million location is also the largest, at an impressive 48,000 square feet.

After a brief fitness demo by some of the gym's star trainers, Madonna explained that it was her love of fitness that inspired her to launch the chain of fitness centres, along with her manager, Guy Oseary, and the founder of 24 Hour Fitness, Mark Mastrov.

“My motivation is I need my body for my work, to perform, to do what I do, to chase after my children. So I want to stay in shape and live as long as possible,” she told City.
