Alanis Morissette got artistic with her latest set of pregnancy photos, sharing a striking nude with fans this week. As she anticipates the arrival of her second child the 42-year-old singer took to Instagram to post a serene underwater snapshot in which her baby bump is front and centre.
"You have to be extra gentle around ladies because they are the most helpful people in the world 'cause they make persons," reads the caption – a quote Alanis attributed to her eldest child, five-year-old son Ever Imre.
Alanis – who has been married to husband Mario 'Souleye' Treadway, 36, since May 2010 – announced her second pregnancy in April, posting an animated video and song which ends with the couple and their son looking at ultrasound images of the new addition.
"The story of my nuclear family in moving pictures, brings us up to this sweet moment," she wrote alongside. "May this song take on ever-deepening meaning as each year goes by."
Alanis - a big advocate of attachment parenting - spoke to Us Weekly in October about raising little Ever. "He's amazing. He's just coming into his own," she said. "We're having real bona fide philosophical conversations. About anything – about aliens, about the galaxy, about what God is, about animals. You just cross your fingers behind your back and you hope you don't blow it."
The Canadian star is the first to admit that parenting isn't always easy, however. In her recent column for The Guardian, Alanis wrote: "Both marriage and becoming a parent have their way of growing us up. It is just about whether we kick and scream through the process (or, ultimately, run from it), or submit to it willingly and with a relatively open mind. The choice is yours, and yours alone. Without a deep personal commitment to growing and healing (alone and together with your partner), it is simply not possible to achieve a functional relationship."
