Summer makeup trend: Bright yellow hues

By Ally Dean

From unicorns to mermaids, this year’s summer beauty trends challenge our use of colour and force us to break out of our ruts. The most flattering shade to enter our makeup kits: yellow. Considering that many people already have yellow tones to their natural complexion, M.A.C senior makeup artist Melissa Gibson tells Hello! that the shade is surprisingly easy to wear. “A wash of yellow across the lids or on the cheeks adds warmth to the face,” she says, referencing the diffused sunflower lids seen on Emily Ratajkowski and Lily Collins.

“We also saw designers like Gucci and Zadig & Voltaire [use yellow] in graphic ways, a deliberate placement of colour, with the rest of the face neutral to really play with the intensity. It’s bold without being too harsh.” If parrot-worthy liner like that seen at the Byblos Fall/Winter 2017 runway show isn’t for you, try adding a yellow nail polish (even just a racing stripe) to your manicure.
