Emma Stone and Queen Elizabeth have a shared love for this cheap beauty product

Emma Stone wore nail polish fit for a queen – actually, the Queen! On the red carpet at the 2018 Oscars on Sunday (Mar. 4), the actress stunned in a nontraditional suited look but kept her nails simple, painting them with Her Majesty’s favourite colour, Ballet Slippers by Essie.

Bidding adieu to traditional Academy Awards ensembles - big gowns and even bigger jewels - the La La Land star opted for a more subdued outfit. Keeping her red locks sleek and her makeup a smoky maroon, she dazzled in a custom Louis Vuitton pantsuit, leaving last year’s golden gown in the dust. But her nails strayed from the deeply hued colour scheme, staying neutral in a sweet baby-pink made famous by the royal matriarch.

As part of royal protocol, it’s prohibited for members of the family to wear bold colours on their nails. This is why both Queen Elizabeth and Duchess Kate often look to Essie for help. It’s reported that the Queen has worn Ballet Slippers for three decades, on the days that she does away with bare or clear-polished nails. According to Insider, the Queen’s hairdresser wrote a letter to Essie Weingarten – founder of the polish brand – in 1989 requesting a bottle! Could Her Majesty be Essie’s biggest fan?

This extremely affordable drugstore brand seems to be a general royal favourite. When Kate said “I do” to Prince William back in 2011, she wore a winning combination of two different colours. Mixing Bourjois’ 28 Rose Lounge shade with Essie’s 423 Allure, the royal bride created a stunning pinky nude shade for her big day.
