Meghan Markle has been making waves in the royal fashion community ever since she and her now-husband Prince Harrywent public with their relationship. But of particular notice has always been the Duchess of Sussex’s penchant for embracing her natural beauty. Rarely seen with more than a swipe of pink lipstick, polished eyebrows and a touch of mascara, the royal glows from within – and perhaps she learned a thing or two from her former makeup artist, Leanne Bayley, who was there to see Meghan exchange vows on May 19. “Meghan is the type of girl with many talents,” the makeup artist told Hello! “She is someone that is ‘in the know’ when it comes to products, tips, trick and trends. Working with her was always a collaborative effort.” One way Meghan gave back? Introducing Leanne to her favourite drug store mascara!
After meeting through a mutual friend, Meghan and Lydia were a match made in makeup heaven, helping each other create the Duchess of Sussex’s signature look, which she donned on her big day at Windsor Castle. Lydia worked with the stunning Suits alum from 2015 to 2017 while filming in Toronto, and the two became quite fond of one another. “Meghan is very self-assured when it comes to what she likes in a beauty routine and our time together very rarely ventured too far from her classic makeup look,” Leanne explained. It’s no surprise that the 36-year-old knows what she wants – after all, she spent years writing about every lifestyle-related, including health and beauty, in her now-defunct blog The Tig.
And while her wedding day look didn’t stray too far from how the world has always seen her, there was one accent that was new to Meghan’s ‘do – her super voluminous, fluttery eyelashes that caught our attention every time she looked lovingly at her husband. Meghan’s coveted style has sent droves of fans to the stores and online to buy her newest threads, and now they’ll be able to achieve her lash look, too – Lydia has told all about her holy grail mascara!
“Meghan actually introduced me to a drugstore mascara, Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Mascara . I keep it stocked in my kit now at all times thank to her,” Lydia gushed. “This mascara really helps to amplify your lashes and polish off the entire look. It’s great for full volume and lengthening, the formula is super hydrating. I love how it builds, and that the price point is accessible for all budgets.”
It’s music to her adoring fans’ ears! Their newest beauty obsession only costs $10.99, and it can be purchased anywhere, from Shoppers Drug Mart to Walmart. It’s the perfect addition to the beauty bag of someone who likes to keep things simple and sophisticated while not breaking the bank. Better yet, they’ll be able to achieve Meghan’s favourite look, which Lydia described to Hello!: “Meghan favours a less-is-more approach to beauty; fresh, dewy skin to show off her natural tone and freckles; thick, lush lashes; a hint of colour on the lips. At night we’d amp it up with a sultry, slightly darker smoky eye or sometimes a bold pop of colour on her lips. She is a very classic, subdued glam kind of gal, which I truly admire.”
A hot topic of Meghan’s beauty are her beautiful freckles, especially after seeing them in full force on her wedding day. And it’s important to her that she let them shine through. “I used Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (a mixture of shade 6.25 with drop of 5.5 for depth), with a drop of Charlotte Tilbury Wonder Glow Primer mixed in - this creates a pearlescent, healthy glow that looks like it's coming from within. I went in with a damp Beauty Blender Sponge to sheer it out, and ensure Meghan's freckles were popping!”
Like most of the beauty-obsessed, her makeup bag boasts a mixture of high and low end to create the perfect collection of products, Lydia shared. “Meghan loves a highlighter from RMS, a Kohl Eyeliner pencil she consistently uses from MAC and a face cream by La Mer.” And as for the Duchess’s look on the biggest day of her life, Lydia thought it was perfect. “Classic, timeless and glowing – a true romance to her look.”
She continued: “This look is all about the skin taking center stage. It's a look Meghan feels the most natural and authentic in. Dewy skin and freckles with a glowing flushed cheek. Her eyebrows perfectly defined and her eyes amplified with earthy tones. Volume in the lash with layered mascara. All balanced with a subtle, nude lip. Subdued, elegant glamour at its finest.”
