Celebrity trainer Simone de la Rue on how Chrissy Teigen gives her an unexpected ab workout

By Meaghan Wray

Chrissy Teigen’s Instagram followers know that there’s never a dull moment where the mother of two is concerned – and as she juggles raising her kids, spending time with husband John Legend, co-hosting Lip Sync Battle and writing cookbooks, she handles the hectic nature of her life with a wicked sense of humour. For the 32-year-old, laughter is the best medicine – and workout, according to celebrity fitness trainer Simone de la Rueof the Body by Simone method! “We don’t really train, we just laugh,” she told HELLO!. “We get an ab workout just from laughing on the floor!”

While the Australian dancer was in Toronto to talk SodaStream Canada and the new FIZZI One Touch – a great tool to help up your daily water intake to six to eight cups, Simone says! – the gorgeous entrepreneur also spoke to her client and friend’s business know-how, something that’s surely been a bonding point for the duo. “She’s doing some wonderful things,” Simone, 43, gushed. “I love women who come across as ditzy but are really quite savvy … Then meanwhile, [they’re] building an empire that people don’t know about!”

While she was quietly taking over Hollywood, Chrissy endeared her trainer and fans alike with her outspoken nature, real-mom moments and sharp wit. “She’s hilarious and she’s got such a big heart. She’s so generous, so funny and witty, and loves her husband and kids [Luna, 2, and two-month-old Miles].”

It’s no wonder Chrissy loves Simone right back! The Body by Simone guru injects her workouts with dance, using the fun movements, jump rope or trampoline as the cardio element in her clients’ interval training. And her studios in Los Angeles and New York give the general public the chance to sweat it like their favourite stars in a variety of classes. For big-name clients like Jennifer Garner, Khloe Kardashian and Sandra Bullock, Simone tailors workouts to each client’s specific needs, whether for a role (like Jennifer’s buzzy transformation for Peppermint) or to generally refine their bodies.

While the former Broadway dancer admits to being nervous with some of her celebrity clients at first, she’s realized that at the end of the day, they’re just like us. “They’re human. They have their good days and bad days. Our life is not our Instagram posts, [the] cover of a DVD, the cover of a magazine,” she said. “People are real, people have issues and people have problems.” And if there’s any celebrity who is a walking testimony for that, it’s Chrissy, who never holds back to show the world her truest self – the good, the bad and the slightly inconvenient!
