A gorgeous red lip is definitely a classic in the beauty world, but it’s one trend that Meghan Markle prefers to leave out of her repertoire. Despite occasionally being spotted donning the deep hue in her early Hollywood days, her makeup artist Daniel Martin has revealed that it’s just not her style – especially now that she’s officially become the Duchess of Sussex.
It’s a bold trend to follow, and Daniel told People that Meghan doesn’t “feel comfortable” wearing a red lip: “She likes to talk and she’s not a fussy person, so she doesn’t want to have to worry about anything.” Back in 2016, when she was starring as Rachel Zane in Suits, she told HELLO! that her aesthetic is so classic and relaxed that, “Putting on red lipstick to me is a risk.”
Fair enough, given that the eyes of the world have been on the former Suits star since she was linked with Prince Harry even before their official public debut at the Invictus games in Toronto last year. The 37-year-old has made a name for herself as someone who pushes royal style boundaries, but her fashion sense and makeup routine have certainly evolved since her wedding day on May 19 .
Always favouring a more natural look (that shows off her freckles, of course!), the former actress has been switching it up at the makeup table, the celebrity artist revealed. “She likes a stronger eye; her brow is a lot more defined now but it’s still her. If anything, she’s going to experiment with different tones, and now that she’s more tan she’ll use warmer colours.”
And while Daniel can be credited for creating the duchess’s stunning wedding day beauty look , he admits that she’s been doing a lot of her own glam on a day-to-day basis – she’s proven that she’s both a style maven and skilled at makeup artistry. “She’s gotten more comfortable doing her own makeup. She loves makeup and she’s good at it! She’s been doing her makeup herself,” he gushed. “She’s not fussy – she’s just trying to get it on and get out the door.”
