In Jillian Halouska’s world, there are no bad hair days – especially when it comes to the magic she serves on her long roster of celebrity clients.
From Orange is the New Black star Natasha Lyonne’s gravity defying Met Gala hair this year to the tousled up dos and sleek backcombs of on-screen royalty Claire Foy and GLOW’s Betty Gilpin, not a strand goes amiss. And while we don’t all have access to the hands that shape the strands of the industry’s biggest stars, there are more than a few looks totally doable from home.
The stylist and OGXpert sat down with HELLO! Canada while in New York City for Governor’s Ball Music Festival to dish some secrets behind long-lasting summer hair using the most buzz-worthy OGX products that last all day and won’t break the bank. And she even revealed which royal woman’s hair she adores (hint: she’s married to Prince William!).
When it comes to summer trends, Jillian says, the bob is being traded in for long, lucious locks!
“I think everyone’s either growing [their hair] out or cutting it short,” she said. “Everyone wants to have some sort of [specific hair] style.”
But if you’re dead-set on keeping that trendy lob through the sweltering season, Jillian recommends styling it in pigtails or a half-up topknot to keep your face cool.
A lot has to happen before the styling, she mused, adding that layering products in a thoughtful way is the best method of creating long-lasting hair looks that withstand the summer sun.
“After your shampoo and conditioner, put in a leave-in conditioner to moisturize... And then you can put in some sort of salt spray,” Jillian said. “Serums are great, too [if you don’t have fine hair].”
While Jillian is definitely in the Hollywood world, there’s no doubt there are a few royal women who have pretty iconic hairstyles. The Duchess of Cambridge, for example, is known for her gorgeous bouncy curls, and has sported a high ponytail quite a few times this year. All royal women – from Queen Máxima to Duchess Meghan – have their own looks, but Jillian’s favourite is a no-brainer: “Kate is definitely my vote!”
