Oscar winner Cate Blanchettand her husband, Andrew Upton, have adopted a baby girl. A representative for Cate confirmed to Hello! that the couplehave welcomed a daughter to their family and have named their new bundle of joy Edith Vivian Patricia Upton.
First reported in Australian news outlet Women's Weekly, Oscar-winner Cate has been telling her friends about the new arrival, and has been seen cradling the little one as she waits at the school gates to collect her sons.
"She's really excited and clearly besotted," a parent at the Sydney school told the publication.
The news comes after a Twitter user sparked speculation that Cate was taking care of a newborn when they wrote: "Just getting on a flight at LAX and #CateBlanchett is on board. With a tiny baby" on the social media website.
Cate and her Australian playwright husband Andrew have three sons together: Dashiell, 13, Roman, 10, and Ignatius, seven.
The 45-year-old, who has been married to Andrew since 1997, is known to be a hands-on mum and is regularly seen taking her boys to and from school.
"It’s true you do get a bit demented [with three boys]," she told W Magazine in 2010. "But the chaos of it is great.
"Everyone says, "Oh, you must have [been trying] to have a girl," she added, saying that she is happy with her children regardless of their gender. "If the next one was a boy, then that's just our lot!"
Blue Jasmine star Cate recently revealed that her sons are somewhat bashful about their famous mother's silver-screen achievements, although they will be seeing her latest film, Cinderella.
"My children are completely in the stage where I'm an utter embarrassment," she told Australian breakfast programme Sunrise. "I don't force them on a Saturday night to sit home and watch mummy's movies, wire coat-hanger in hand, but they'll see this one for sure."
