Top tips on how to banish beauty stains

Share this:

Any beauty addict will know the pain of staining your clothes because of spilled nail polish or fake tan that hasn't fully dried. "Many beauty products are now designed to last even longer," says Kevin Day, distributor of ACE stain remover. "Whilst 24-hour stay foundation and long lasting fake tan are good for the consumer, it does mean a more potent stain to remove."

Beauty products can make for some of the toughest stains to get rid of, but instead of throwing away your clothes, there are some quick and easy ways to get rid of the stain and minimise damage.

Dab the stain rather than rubbing to minimise damage

Removing nail varnish

Soak a kitchen towel in nail varnish remover and dab it onto the stain – this will transfer the nail varnish to the kitchen towel. Keep doing this until the stain is gone, then wash the item with a stain remover.

Banish fake tan

Don’t scrub the stain, but gently dab the fake tan with a mixture of warm water and washing up liquid, then wash as normal.

Getting rid of make-up stains

Getting to the make-up stain early is the key. Before putting the item of clothing in the washing machine, try lifting the stain by soaking a piece of cotton wool with a stain remover and letting it soak in.

Use a stain remover in every wash

Using a leading stain remover such as ACE in every wash will really help to remove stains, prevent fade and keep whites bright. Put the stain remover on both sides of the stain before putting the item of clothing into the washing machine.

ACE stain remover is currently available from Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, some branches of Asda and Poundland. Capsules retail at £3.99 for 14.
