"6 months in the making. Thanks @bryanrandolph for absolutely blowing my mind with this one! Woooo hooooo!!!!," he wrote alongside a snap of his new body art, shared with his 5.5 million followers.

The eye-catching tattoo, which covers the Maroon 5 singer's back, includes a winged mermaid holding a skull, posing in front of the ocean with a large ship visible in the background. Although the Move Like Jagger hitmaker already boasts an impressive collection of inkings, this seems to be one of his largest projects to date – and many fans took to social media to compliment his new design.

The American star has been teasing his followers with sneak peeks of the artwork in progress in recent months, and even posted a candid black-and-white photo of himself getting tattooed by artist Bryan Randolph back in November when it was still largely unfinished.

Meanwhile wife Behati Prinsloo also posted the snap of Adam on her own Instagram account, revealing that Bryan had come to the couple's home to continue working on the large image. "House call @bryanrandolph," the Victoria's Secret model simply captioned the black-and-white image shared with her 3.3 million followers.

Adam is no stranger to tattoos, and has previously revealed that he has a few pieces dedicated to his band Maroon 5, including a triple set of the number two on his forearm to signify the room number of the first studio in which the band recorded their songs for the first time. Other inkings include a large tiger on his right arm, as well as a Sanskrit script on his chest.
