Katy Perry has spoken out about her dramatic hair transformation, saying she had wanted to experiment with a pixie cut for a long time. The Chained to the Rhythm singer, who unveiled her new look just days after confirming her split from Orlando Bloom, also said she wanted to "redefine what it means to be feminine".

STORY: Katy Perry debuts dramatic hair transformation

Speaking to radio host Elvis Duran at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on Sunday about the attention her hair cut had received, Katy said: "Well yeah, if you're going this extreme it should, hello! I'm trying to get more attention, obviously. You can just grow it back. Honestly, I tried to take my full head of hair platinum and I had a lot of breakage. I've always wanted to look like Miley Cyrus. I've always wanted to have that pixie haircut, so I said, 'Let's just go for it.'"

Katy Perry said her new look was inspired by Miley Cyrus and Scarlett Johansson

The 32-year-old revealed that she had also been inspired by another famous face who has recently been sporting a similar style – Scarlett Johansson. "I feel like there's a new wave, a new authentic vibe coming in and I think this matches," she explained. "I want to redefine what it means to be feminine. Look at Scarlett Johansson, who's one of the most beautiful women in the world. You can be hot and look great with this kind of hair. Why not?"

Katy added that she does not have to look a certain way to prove that she is feminine, or for men to find her attractive. She explained: "I think my feminine is inside of me. If a guy is like, 'Oh, she's got a weird haircut. I don't want to date her', I'm not even interested in talking to them because you're so one-dimensional about life."

The singer wants her new look to "redefine what it means to be feminine"

The Roar singer underwent her post break-up transformation at the hands of stylist Chris McMillan, who created Jennifer Aniston's much-copied 'Rachel' hairstyle in the '90s. It came just days after Katy confirmed her split from Orlando Bloom, following a year-long relationship. Katy broke her silence on the break-up on Twitter on Thursday revealing that nobody was to "blame". She told her 96 million followers: "HOW BOUT A NEW WAY OF THINKING FOR 201!? You can still be friends & love your former partners! No one's a victim or a villain, get a life y'all!"
