Angelina Jolie has admitted she has been finding more grey hairs over the past year following her split from Brad Pitt. Speaking to Vanity Fair the actress, who also revealed she had Bell's Palsy, admitted: "I can't tell if it's menopause or if it's just been the year I've had."
The 42-year-old is far from the only celebrity to open up about her grey hair, with celebrities including Jennifer Lopez and Eva Longoria both revealing that they went grey prematurely. Although Jennifer Aniston has confessed she was moved to tears after discovering a grey hair and Naomie Harris said she "hates" them, you needn't despair if you find yourself going grey.
There are a number of great hair dyes and touch-up applicators available if you want to keep greys covered, or you can take the lead from stars like Helen Mirren and embrace your changing hair colour. Grey hair has become a growing trend in recent years with stars including Pink, Ellie Goulding and Kelly Osbourne all previously experimenting with silver-grey locks. But one of the worst things you could do is to pluck them out; over time this can damage the follicle and it will stop producing hair. The singer admits she went grey prematurely in her 20s. Speaking to People in 2011, she said: "I was prematurely grey at 23. I have to have [my roots] touched up every couple of weeks. I'm kind of tempted one day to let it go. It'd be kind of exciting! Maybe someday we'll go really far away for like two months and I'm just going to see what it looks like."
Eva also admitted she went grey prematurely, and has been dying her hair since she was 18. As a result, the former Desperate Housewives star visits the salon every two weeks. "And then I have some of that peek through. So if I'm travelling or not in town to get my hair coloured, I need an emergency fix," Eva told Us Weekly. "[To cover my roots] I used to use those mascaras, and it would leave your hair sticky. Then I would use my black eyeshadow, and it would come off when the wind blows."
The actress told People that her own grey hairs were bought on by a traumatic moment. "I actually had a car accident and when I woke up the next day I had loads of grey hair which I didn't have before," she said. "I hate it, I keep plucking them out, dying them, I hate them."
Friends star Jennifer admitted that she was almost moved to tears after discovering a long white hair before her 40th birthday. "I found a really long grey hair and it kind of flipped me out," she told Ellen DeGeneres. "It's not my first, but it's the fact that it was so long. I was like, 'Oh, that's been there. How many others are there, and what does that mean?' It actually brought me to tears, slightly."
However Pretty Little Liars star Shay is unfazed by her own grey hairs, saying they're a sign of the experiences she has had. "I call them wisdom hairs. Like more wisdom, great. You can't freak out about it," she told People. "I am getting older. I am happy. You know what that means? I have more experiences… Plus if you don't like it, then dye your hair, no problem."
