Even celebrities weren't immune to the excitement surrounding Beyoncé's surprise pregnancy announcement. A number of A-list stars joined the throngs on social media celebrating the news that Beyoncé is pregnant with twins – from Rihanna to Chrissy Teigen and Rita Ora. Rihanna was among the first to congratulate the Beyoncé and her husband Jay Z. “So excited about this news!!! Congratulations to you @beyonce and my big bro Jay!!!" she wrote.

Mum-of-one Chrissy also sent her love to the pregnant Lemonade singer, joking that they are actually best friends. "But really. Congrats to my best friend Beyoncé. I love you so much. Hive forever," she tweeted. Rita Ora, meanwhile, wrote: "Yay!!! Congratulations!!! Soooooo beautiful!!!!"

Precious actress Gabourey Sidibe joked about potential names for the babies. "Should she name them Yellow and Lemonade? No? Okay. *Nods and escorts self out*." Model Hailey Baldwin admitted: "I feel like I'm more excited for Beyoncé to be pregnant than I will be for my own child."

Ellen DeGeneres took a tongue-in-cheek approach to the news, photoshopping Beyoncé's original baby announcement to switch heads with the star. "Me too!" she joked underneath.

Celebrities took to social media to celebrate the baby news

Beyoncé's pregnancy caused unprecedented excitement on social media; in just eight hours, she had broken the Instagram record for the most liked photo of all time. Twitter was also set alight. Within 15 minutes of the announcement, there were more than 17,000 tweets being sent per minute refereeing to the pregnancy. 'Twins' was also the top trend on Twitter, with 'Beyonce', 'Blue' and 'Beyhive' also trending.

Ellen DeGeneres delighted fans with a photoshopped image

Beyoncé and Jay Z, who have been married since 2008, are already parents to five-year-old daughter Blue Ivy. Posting a photo of her growing baby bump on Wednesday – the first day of Black History Month – the singer wrote: "We would like to share our love and happiness. We have been blessed two times over. We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for your well wishes – The Carters."
