From molten metallics to seventies inspirations and tropical prints, there are a number of fun and fabulous interior design trends leading the way in 2018. Whether you’re planning to give your home a full revamp or simply want to give a nod to the year’s biggest interiors trends with accessories or a new lick of paint, there’s something for everyone.

1) Maximalism

Not one for the faint-hearted, more is more when it comes to the maximalism interiors trend. Think clashing prints, bright colours and attention-grabbing accessories creating a room that will wow your friends, family and neighbours. Try out the trend first with something simple like an array of cushions in clashing tones, before building up to bold furniture, wallpapers or paints.

2) Purple

As Pantone's Colour of the Year, it’s no wonder Ultraviolet is having a big influence on the interiors world too. This is another trend you can follow as much or as little as you like; go all out with a purple sofa or walls, or just add purple accents with details like lamps or soft furnishings for a low-commitment update.

3) Terrazzo

The seventies are back in a big way this year, with terrazzo in particular having a revival. John Lewis has a terrazzo lamp in the sale for just £12 offering a budget-friendly take on the trend, or you could invest in terrazzo floor tiles to bring retro influences into your kitchen or bathroom.

4) Botanicals

Transform your home into a beautiful oasis with rich shades of green and botanical prints. Mix complementing shades of green and offset with dark wooden furniture and metallic accents. This looks luxurious and fresh – perfect for bathrooms or a unique living room.

5) Mixed metals

Copper and rose gold tones have been everywhere for the past couple of years, but now the on-trend way to style them is by mixing metals. Try copper with gold or rose gold with chrome for a distinctive and stylish look.

6) Geometric prints

Often paired with marble furniture and metallics, geometric prints are everywhere this year. From bedding to rugs and even wallpapers, it’s a graphic and modern trend that works particularly well in bedrooms. Try something like this wallpaper from B&Q, which mixes pastel tones of pink, rose gold and lilac to great effect.

7) Rattan textures

Homeware designers have taken inspiration from nature for 2018, with rattan and wicker textures featuring heavily. Mix with different textures to create an interesting, cosy vibe.

8) Fringing

Another retro look that’s back with a bang is fringing. As well as dominating the catwalks, it’s also proving popular with interiors. From tasseled cushions to fringed lighting, even just one statement piece is enough to incorporate the trend into your home. We love this fringed mirror from Oliver Bonas, which has been reduced to an affordable £27.

9) Marble

Synonymous with luxury, marble is still a key trend for 2018. It’s also refreshingly easy to incorporate into your home. If you don’t have the budget for solid marble furniture or tiles, you can still try the look with marble-effect wallpapers, coated ceramic tiles or even marble-effect dinnerware for an affordable home refresh.

10) Statement Ceilings

While the statement wall is still popular, a statement ceiling will create an unusual focal point in any room. You could paint the ceiling in one block colour or even use a patterned wallpaper to completely transform your room with no need to change anything else.

11) Scandi Styling

Minimalist and functional furniture may spring to mind when you think of Scandinavian styling, but now you can add impact to a pared-back monochromatic look with rich jewel tone accents, plush textures and graphic prints or stripes. Modern and inviting, this look shows that fuss-free interiors are anything but boring.

12) Wall Art

Forget bare walls, add character to your room with a gallery wall filled with everything from graphic prints and quotes to family photos and artwork. Much like the maximalism look, more is more when it comes to this trend.
