Hosted by Kendall and Kylie Jenner, the 25th annual MuchMusic Video Awards saw Toronto's Queen Street West transform into a star-studded block party complete with eye-catching performances and wild entrances.
Hedley were the top winners of the night, opening the show with a gaggle of cheerleaders and taking home awards for Video of the Year, Pop Video of the Year and Your Fave Video. Drake, who was not in attendance, won Best Hip-Hop Video for "Worst Behaviour" and International Video of the Year by a Canadian for “Hold On, We’re Going Home.”
On-again-off-again couple Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez each took home fan-voted wins – Justin for Your Fave Artist and Selena for Your Fave International Artist – though they, too, were no-shows. Justin later took to Twitter to show his appreciation, writing: “Thank you #beliebers. I love you.”
Those who did make it out for the evening's festivities arrived in style. The pajama-clad members of Marianas Trench stormed the red carpet on a feather-strewn bed, while Ed Sheeran handed out treats to hungry fans from a food truck. Toronto-based rap-rock group Down With Webster made a rock star-worthy spectacle as they pulled up in honking black Mack truck.
But it was the array of slick, striking performances that truly stood out this year. Grammy-winner Lorde caressed a lamp through her emotive rendition of "Tennis Court" and "Team," which -- like Angelina Jolie's leg at the Oscars or Pharell Williams' oversized mountie hat at the Grammys -- garnered its own Twitter account before the show had even ended as well its own hashtag (#LordeShines).
Breakout star Kiesza took the stage to belt out her surprise international dance hit “Hideaway," and Ariana Grande performed her summer anthem "Problem" sporting a sexy, sequinned ensemble while flanked by shirtless male dancers.
