Celine Dion cancels tour, postpones Las Vegas residency due to husband René's ill health

Celine Dion is taking an indefinite break from show business — cancelling her upcoming tour in Asia and postponing her Las Vegas residency — to take care of her ailing husband, René Angelil.

"I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband's healing, and to do so, it's important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children," said the “Most Beautiful Canadian" singer in a statement.

"I also want to apologize to all my fans everywhere, for inconveniencing them, and I thank them so much for their love and support."

René had a cancerous tumour removed from his throat just before Christmas last year, and was previously diagnosed with throat cancer in 1999, which prompted Celine, 46, to take time off from her career as her husband recovered.

In June, René announced he was stepping down as his wife’s manager. No official reason was given for the change at the time, though it was suspected that René was taking time off to spend more time with his family amidst his ongoing health issues.

The Quebec-born songbird is undoubtedly devoted to her beau, to whom she has been married for almost two decades. The couple, who share a 26-year age gap, went on their first date when Celine was 19 and René was 45.

They got engaged in 1991 and were wed in 1994, in a lavish ceremony at the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, Quebec.

They have three children, 13-year-old René-Charles and twin boys Nelson and Eddy, who were born in 2011 following a sixth attempt at IVF.
