Celebrity marriages don’t typically last more than 20 years, but Celine Dion and René Angélil were not your typical celebrity couple. On Jan. 14, the singer and their three children — René Charles, 15, and five-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy — said goodbye to their beloved husband and father.
The family released a statement, saying "René Angelil, 73, passed away this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer. The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment; more details will be provided at a later time."
René and Celine's was a love that spanned decades, with both the singer and her husband — who share a 26-year age gap — remaining totally devoted to one another through thick and thin.
Celine, 46, and René, 73, have weathered more than a few storms together in the past, having struggled with René’s ongoing health issues as well as fertility treatments. Through it all they’ve persevered, no doubt thanks to their rock-solid relationship.
As we say goodbye to René, Hello! Online looks back at one of Canada’s greatest love stories.
