Canadian singer Lights has announced that she and her manager of 12 years, Jian Ghomeshi, are parting ways.
The 27-year-old musician had initially supported the embattled CBC broadcaster amid accusations that he was inappropriate or aggressive towards women, writing that Jian was her “super hero” in a Facebook post published last Monday, Oct. 27.
On Friday (Oct. 31), however, the singer had deleted her original post and announced that she was no longer working with Jian.
“I posted my comments about Jian Ghomeshi the day after he was dismissed by the CBC where I rushed to defend my manager of 12 years. I am now aware that my comments appear insensitive to those impacted and for that I am deeply sorry,” she wrote. “This is to confirm that as of now I will be parting ways with Jian Ghomeshi as my manager.”
“I hope everyone can heal from this.”
The CBC cut ties with the Toronto-based Q host on Sunday, Oct. 26, "information came to our attention [that] precludes us from continuing our relationship with Jian," said CBC spokesperson Chuck Thompson.
This was followed by a Toronto Star article in which several women alleged that Jian had been inappropriate while dating them. More women have come forward in the past few days with similar allegations. He maintains he is innocent of any wrongdoing.
