Katy Perry celebrates Super Bowl with a new tattoo and John Mayer

After dazzling the crowd during her Super Bowl halftime show – which she had previously described as “the biggest event of [her] career” – Katy Perry commemorated her landmark performance with a special tattoo.

The “Roar” singer shared photos on Instagram with fans after the Big Game, which showed the pop star getting fresh ink following New England’s victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX on Sunday night (Feb. 1). With her hair still in its slicked-back high ponytail and her glittery makeup intact, the singer can be seen sitting patiently as a tattoo artist gets to work on her ring finger.

In a second snap, Katy shows off her new ink, which simply reads “XLIX.”

The songstress also seemed to hint that she was back together with her ex-boyfriend John Mayer, as she spent the evening partying with him and Missy Elliott, who had performed with the pop star earlier in the night. Missy – whose real name is Melissa Arnette Elliott – shared a snap of the trio on Twitter and captioned it: "After party Super Bowl with @johnmayor @katyperry."

The photo had rumours swirling that John and Katy were back together, as the chart-topper looked extremely content and relaxed cuddling up to the soulful singer.

John wasn’t the only former flame who was supporting Katy on her big night. The singer’s ex-husband Russell Brand, to whom she was married for two years, gave a special mention to Katy as he tweeted: "Super Bowl may be baffling to Brits but half time show will be amazing. Good luck KP."

Fans were impressed with the 30-year-old pop star’s halftime show performance, which featured everything from a giant tiger to backup dancers dressed as sharks and included medleys with Lenny Kravitz and rapper Missy.

After the show, Katy took to Twitter to announce that three of the Super Bowl band’s Fender guitars were for sale at the NFL Auction, with the proceeds going towards Break the Cycle, a non-profit organization that supports young people in abusive relationships.
