The day that millions of ‘Beliebers’ have been waiting for finally arrived on Aug. 27, when Justin Bieber released his first single in more than three years, “What Do You Mean?” The addictive pop anthem quickly shot to the top of the charts and has left fans screaming for more.
“It's actually perfect for summer, even though summer's just ending,” the Stratford native recently told Radio.com. “I had the best time recording it.” The singer is wasting no time in promoting the single, as he is set to jump on stage at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards to perform his new hit.
And now that he’s given his fans a taste of his new sound, their attention has turned to the debut of his fourth album, which he hints will be released “soon.” “I’ve been working on this thing for three years,” he says, adding, “I’ve been going through phases of doing R&B music, and then really hard hip-hop based music, and now I’m in a place of wanting to really bring all these things together to make one cohesive sound.”
“What Do You Mean” is the product of a collaborative effort between Justin, Skrillex and Cali the Producer. The 21-year-old, who was also just named one of Hello! Canada’s 25 Hottest Bachelors, highlighted the launch with an accompanying lyric video featuring professional skateboarders Ryan Sheckler and Chelsea Castro. The run up to the single’s release was almost as exciting as the actual event, with stars like Britney Spears, Ellen DeGeneres, Mark Wahlberg and Michael Bublé taking to social media to help Justin count down to the big day.
