Though dozens of eager fans entered contests to meet their idol, only a select few represented Canada's love for Demi Lovato at an exclusive event in Toronto on Thursday (Oct. 1). In town to promote her latest album, Confident, which drops on Oct. 16, the “Skyscraper” singer took time out of her hectic travel schedule to meet and take selfies with her beloved supporters. Demi, 23, arrived earlier in the day to perform at We Day 2015 in a lineup that also included Toronto singer Shawn Mendes.
Looking impeccably chic in a black-and-white jumpsuit, Demi descended on the Entertainment City studio for an intimate Q&A. The crowd could barely contain its excitement when the former Disney star stepped out, all smiles, to greet the eager #Lovatics: “I’m so excited to see you guys!” she gushed. One by one, several fans bravely stepped forward to share their personal stories of how the singer, who went public with her own struggle with addiction and body-image issues in the past, inspired them to also seek help in their lives. A visibly moved Demi embraced each of her young admirers in an affectionate hug.
During the wide-ranging conversation, Demi spoke candidly about the inspiration for her latest album, and even admitted that it’s on her morning workout playlist. Which song gets her the most pumped up? “Depends on what mood I’m in!” she said with a laugh. The title track, “Confident”, became available for download on Apple Music earlier in the week, and first single “Cool for the Summer” topped Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart in its fifth week.
Apart from how the singer grew into her own confidence, Demi chatted openly about her home renovations, why she starts her day with her morning coffee and why she truly loves her fans.
Stay tuned to an upcoming issue of Hello! Canada for the full interview!
