Adele looked to the Great White North for a director to helm the first single off her highly anticipated new album: award-winning filmmaker Xavier Dolan. It isn't the Montreal native's first crack at the art form; Xavier previously crafted a controversial video for French alt-rockers Indochine. The 26-year-old former Cannes juror also has five feature films under his belt and is currently working on two projects with A-list casts that include Jessica Chastain, Kit Harrington, Marion Cotillard and Susan Sarandon. It's been four years since Adele's wildly successful 21 swept the charts in 2011, securing the soulful singer a whopping six GRAMMY Awards the following year. The sepia-tinged video for "Hello" starts off silent, with the mother of one chatting on the phone before launching into the heartfelt ballad. Opening lyrics "Hello, it's me. I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet" address a lover lost - and feels appropriate for fans who've been waiting excitedly for new music by the British songstress.
