Just before Adele released her powerhouse ballad "Hello" and the internet exploded with memes resurfacing Lionel Richie's song by the same name, Canadian pop-rockers Hedley threw their hats into the Hello ring with an album that has since been certified gold in the Great White North - and a title track we've been humming since October. Now, the band has released an acoustic version of the chart-topper, and Hello! has the exclusive first look at the stunning accompanying video.
Stripped down and laying bare the soul of the single, singer Jacob Hoggard sits at a piano topped with glowing candles and red wine as he plays a slowed-down rendition of the broken-hearted ballad and emotionally belts out the words, all in moody black and white. "It's ok, I don't care what they say / it gets better, don't ever lose hope / Never giving up, not the end of the show / I'm not scared, don't let go, don't say goodbye, just say 'hello'."
This takes a decidedly romantic turn in contrast to the official video for "Hello," which was co-directed by Jacob and features an uptempo beat. Set in a primary school, it sees love-struck tweens belt out the lyrics and the band rocking out in the gym.
Since releasing their sixth studio album, Hedley is gearing up for their massive Hello World Canadian tour, which kicks off on April 7 and runs to May 20. The band is bringing along special guests and fellow chart-topping Canucks Carly Rae Jepsen and Francesco Yates.
