All hail the new queen of Instagram: Selena Gomez. The "Hands to Myself" singer toppled best friend Taylor Swift's record to become the most followed person on the social platform at a whopping 69.5 million followers.
She is closely followed by Taylor, who has 69.2 million fans on the photo sharing site. The 26-year-old had held the title for five months after becoming the first celebrity to reach 50 million followers in October.
Selena has won over fans around the globe with her images shared from her jet-set lifestyle, and while her famous friends are a regular fixture on Selena's feed, she is just as likely to share amusing videos of herself tucking into junk food or throwback photos from her time on Barney as a child.
However there is no rivalry between Selena and Taylor. The long-time friends are openly supportive of each other, and Selena recently wrote that she was "so proud" of Taylor for winning three awards at the Grammys in February.
The 23-year-old has also spoken about the possibility of collaborating with Taylor in the future, and praised her friend for being "one of the most talented songwriters" in the industry.
Speaking to Capital FM presenter Roman Kemp, Selena said: "The opportunity has always been there and I think she is one of the most talented songwriters I've ever met. I don't know – I would want it to be a moment we'll see."
Selena previously joined Taylor on stage to perform her single Good For You together last summer, a moment she described as the "best night ever" on Instagram.
"After nearly 8 years of friendship, I just can't wait to tell our kids we ACTUALLY got to perform in front of thousands of insanely beautiful people together, TWICE!" Selena wrote. "I love you Tay. #bestnightEVER #whatISlife."
