Billboard has called on Madonna to help pay tribute to Prince at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards on May 22. Promised to be one of the night's most memorable moments, the "Material Girl" will take the stage to honour her dear friend who passed away on April 21 at age 47. Further details on the performance remain a closely-guarded secret.
The iconic singers were friends for years and Madonna has taken to social media on several occasions since Prince's death to commemorate her friend. She captioned one throwback picture showing the duo sporting matching yellow ensembles with the words, "He Changed The World!! A true Visionary. What a loss. I'm Devastated. This is Not A Love Song," a reference to the pair's 1989 duet "Love Song."
And while the tribute to Prince will be a poignant moment of reflection at the awards show, the night will also be a celebration of the past year's best music. Justin Bieber, DNCE, Shawn Mendes and Pink are just a few of the A-list stars set to perform during the show. It will also be a special night for Canada's Celine Dion, who will be in attendance to accept this year's ICON Award. The Montreal native will also deliver a thrilling performance live, her first on television since the untimely passing of her beloved husband René Angélil in January.
