As part of the North American leg of his world tour, pop superstar Ed Sheeran touched down in Toronto last weekend (July 8–9) for back-to-back sold-out performances at the Air Canada Centre.
Before taking the stage, the 26-year-old sat down with KiSS 92.5's Maurie Sherman from the Roz & Mocha Show to talk about the inspiration behind some of his massive hits. The proud Brit revealed that when it comes to penning number one songs, his relationship status affects his work in the studio.
“I’ve written the best songs in my life whilst in love but I’ve written the most songs whilst I’m single,” he said. “I’m in the studio right now writing songs and I have no clue what to write about.”
Ed is currently dating Cherry Seaborn, a high school friend who moved back to the U.K. from New York in December to be closer to the “Shape of You” singer. The loved-up pair have been dating since 2015 and are reportedly talking about marriage.
Maurie also asked Ed about whether he requests permission from his former flames before writing about them.
“A couple of times, yeah. I used to date a songwriter. So she made songs about me as well. And it was just like ‘Hey this one is about you, you might not like it’ and it’s like ‘Okay cool.’”
